The Walters-Storyk Design Group recently broke ground on a new 4,500 sq. ft. two-room recording studio for leading engineer Andy Taub. Located in Brooklyn's elegant Cobble Hill neighborhood, Brooklyn Recording will cater to a wide range of album-oriented projects. The facility is slated to go online in the first quarter of 2002.

The 1,200 sq. ft. main studio features two isolation booths and a vintage 60-channel AMS Neve console. A second room, possibly to be used for mastering or overdubs, is in the planning stage. Taub, a successful engineer for over 14 years, has worked with such artists as Huey Lewis, The Neville Brothers, The Breeders, Squirrel Nut Zippers, Los Lobos and many others.
"The complex takes up the full second floor of a pre-existing office building," describes John Storyk, WSDG principal architect. "It's a terrific space. The primary acoustic challenge so far has been tuning the rooms. We had to install several panels on the walls to isolate the studio and neutralize the sound reflections."

"I selected WSDG based on their long-standing reputation," comments Taub. "I really like John's design, and I'm looking forward to opening our doors."
Taub will be assisted by second engineer Sue Kapa.

That's what today's products are being designed for/targeted at. You happen to buy one...fine. Watch a little, little kid pick up a smartphone. He/she just uses it. They've come pre-wired and we're still trying to figure out how to IM. It's the IGen. They want it instantly. They want to use it instantly. They expect their photos, their video, their music, their stuff immediately when/where/how they want it.

The blood, gore, adrenalin challenges that were unveiled at E3 and enjoyed at ComicCon are fun to look at, easy to hold but are they really the games people want to plunk down their credit cards to own or rent time with? Seems as though the investors, the players who control the controllers have a different idea of a "good" game than the kids who develop them. While mobs of people play educational, informational, stimulating games our kid huddles in his room and mumbles "The Few, The Proud, The Gamers."
