SGI Total Performance 9100 RAID Storage Array Delivers High Performance
And Advanced Features at Entry-Level Prices
MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA --(May 8, 2000)-- SGI announced the availability of
the SGI Total Performance 9100 (TP9100) RAID storage array, a full-fiber
solution that offers the performance and features typically available
with midrange storage products at an entry-level price.
"Data is one of the most important business assets of many SGI customers,"
said Mick Dungworth, vice president, storage marketing, SGI.
"As such, providing a comprehensive suite of scalable, available
and reliable storage solutions is among SGI's highest priorities. The
TP9100 further extends our storage capability by delivering both very
compelling price/performance and RAID reliability at an affordable price."
The TP9100 complements SGI's existing line of storage products that
range from internal PCI-based RAID to multiple-terabyte, enterprise-class
storage solutions. All SGI storage products are designed to address
the needs of scientific, technical, analytical and creative users in
government, defense, manufacturing, science, broadband communications
and entertainment.
With the TP9100, users can easily scale both performance and capacity.
The entry-level model, for example, can be configured with one to two
RAID controllers and up to 32 9GB drives. The modular base unit provides
maximum flexibility in form and function in a very small footprint (12
disks in 4U rack space). In addition, SGI TP9100 supports RAID levels
0, 1, 1+0, 3 and 5, ensuring superior data accessibility, reliability
and security.
Comprehensive storage management is provided with SGI TP9100 through
an easy-to-use Java platform-based Web interface. With support for the
IRIX and Microsoft Windows NT operating systems and future support for
the Linux and Windows 2000 operating systems, the TP9100 is an ideal
solution for the storage area network (SAN) environment.
Available direct from SGI and SGI resellers worldwide, the SGI TP9100
RAID storage array, equipped with one RAID controller and 12 9GB disks,
starts at under $25,000 (U.S. list).
SGI provides a broad range of high-performance computing and advanced
graphics solutions that enable customers to understand and conquer their
toughest computing problems. Headquartered in Mountain View, Calif.,
with offices worldwide, the company is located on the Web at www.sgi.com.
