Montreal, Canada
--(May 3, 2000)-- Matrox Video Products Group announced that Channel
6, a community cable channel in Glendale, California, has revamped their
broadcast look with the award-winning Matrox DigiSuite LE realtime editing
platform. The two simultaneously available DVE channels on the DigiSuite
LE are being exploited to edit programming in realtime and broadcast
the channel's bulletin board timeline 24/7 with effects, transitions,
and titles.
"GTV6
is a non-profit channel," says Tor Rolf Seemann, Broadcast
Coordinator of GTV6. "We don't have a ton of new programming each
week, which is a common problem with community channels like ours. We
desired something much more eye-catching than the series of static graphical
slides we were using to fill the empty slots. So, last year, GTV6 invested
in a Matrox DigiSuite LE platform bundled with Adobe Premiere 5.1 RT.
Our bulletin board is now composed in Illustrator and Photoshop, animated
in After Effects, rendered out to the hardware codec and then a timeline
is built in Premiere. The entire bulletin board timeline is then looped
24/7 with realtime effects and transitions to fill the gaps between
our regularly scheduled programming."
"One of the primary reasons we chose to integrate the Matrox boards
was the real-time WYSIWYG monitoring from our most common graphical
applications: Adobe After Effects and Discreet's 3D Studio MAX,"
says Seemann. "Now my staff can see their composites unfold in the
NTSC realm - as they work on them. There are no more 'surprises' after
a 20-hour render! I can not express enough the importance of this feature.
During the process of creating, we can now detect problematic color
issues, interlacing headaches, and TV safe concerns. I haven't found
this feature to be available with any other NT-based boards."
The Matrox platform allows the GTV6 staff to create stunning compositions
that provide information to their community efficiently and with a high
level of visual appeal. The Matrox DigiSuite LE editing system gives
them the ability to have realtime stereo 48kHz sync sound in their bulletin
board messages, and Adobe After Effects software brings motion to their
'pages.' The realtime platform was an affordable editing solution for
the non-profit channel, costing less than their previous set-up. Having
a variety of realtime editing features and productivity tools such as
multiple 2D DVE channels, rolls and crawls on titles and graphics, and
the unique Matrox multi-layer compositing engine for quickly building
multiple layers of video/graphics, GTV6 now has the look to rival high-budget
network television channels.
"We have had rock solid performance from our Matrox DigiSuite LE
board and a very reliable loop from Adobe Premiere for our bulletin
board," says Seemann. "This is crucial for cable channels like
us, since a crashed computer or frozen application will result in the
channel going 'off air.' We feel privileged to be working with our system
because it doesn't limit us creatively - and it pushes us to make the
most of each pixel in each page. The community has responded very favorably
to the new look and feel of our bulletin board. I frequently hear other
community channel managers and staff say that our graphics are as good
or better than the Network television affiliates on the dial -- and
they all want to know how we do it! I guess the cat's out of the bag
now."
The Matrox DigiSuite LE system was purchased from Matrox authorized
reseller, Studio Spectrum in Burbank, California.
