Turner Sports Adds Everest 3D Software From Peak Broadcast Systems

ATLANTA, GEORGIA, --(March 22, 2000)-- Turner Sports, Inc., a leader in televised sports programming, is utilizing Everest Virtual Set and 3D graphics software from Peak Broadcast Systems in the creation of promos and bumpers. The Everest software was originally purchased to enhance the graphics look of game scores (with the 3D software) and integrate real-time emersive graphics, including sponsors' logos, for Turners' NBA half-time show. Turner Sports now also uses Everest in the real-time creation of weekly program promotional spots and bumpers, which has significantly speeded the graphics production process.

According to Chuck Crabtree, Digital Graphics Supervisor, the Everest 3D software saves Turner Sports considerable time and expense in the creation of promos and bumpers: "With Everest software, we are able to avoid the delay and expense of creating these elements through conventional post production methods." 3D elements, special effects, graphics and video clips are now composited on Everest software in real-time, eliminating the need to tie-up a control room.

With events airing on both the TBS Superstation and TNT networks, Turner Sports presents a wide variety of sports, including NBA games, Atlanta Braves baseball and professional golf. "With the new software, we no longer have to schedule post production time to render out special effects for all of our programs," added Crabtree.

Along with the notable savings, Crabtree said he likes being able to build these elements from the software on the staff's own computers. "We are able to use a lot of the same elements for promos that are used in graphics for our live broadcasts," he said. "That really streamlines and makes more accessible the graphics production process. And, it insures we'll maintain a consistency of look."
