FibreNet SAN
Solutions Used to Optimize Editing Networks For "The Matrix" and Editor
Zach Staenberg
SANTA BARBARA, CA (MARCH 31, 2000) — Transoft Networks, a wholly owned
subsidiary of Hewlett-Packard Company, announced that its flagship product,
FibreNet, was used in production of Academy Award-winning film, "The
Matrix".
FibreNet is the leading Fibre Channel Storage Area Network (SAN) solution
to create reliable, high speed, shared storage environments for high
bandwidth applications like feature film editing. FibreNet has been
used in several high-profile feature films since its release in 1995,
and this year was also used for editing networks in two other Academy
Award nominated films including "Magnolia," and "The Cider House Rules"
.
Transoft’s FibreNet SAN solution was used by film editor Zach Staenberg,
who was awarded an Oscar last Sunday for film editing on "The Matrix."
When asked to comment on his need for a shared storage networking environment,
Staenberg said, "In working with new footage each day, it is important
for me to access new files almost immediately. Using FibreNet, the media
was loaded on the assistant’s Avid, and I was able to quickly access
the media from my Avid." "FibreNet allows me to continue editing
without downtime to load media. It helps make the editing room more
efficient. I hardly think about the system because it works," Staenberg
continued.
Staenberg is also using Transoft’s FibreNet solution to edit the high-tech
thriller "Anti-Trust" from MGM to be released later this year. Transoft
Networks, is the industry leader in integrated SAN solutions. Transoft
pioneered open systems SAN management software and was acquired by Hewlett-Packard
Company in May of 1999. Transoft Networks (www.transoftnetworks.com)
is headquartered in Santa Barbara, California with offices worldwide.
