Sony Creates Position to Advance Company's Broadcast Internet Businesses

 

 

 

 

PARK RIDGE, N.J., March 16, 2000 -- Sony announced the appointment of Stephen E. Jacobs to Senior Vice President, Networked Systems Businesses for Sony Electronics' Broadcast and Professional Company. In this capacity, Mr. Jacobs will be responsible for sales and marketing of Sony's Internet and network services business, including the following product areas: Asset Management, Digital Library, Archiving, Webcasting and Newsroom Systems. "Steve's extensive knowledge and experience with both broadcast news and the Internet will allow him to play a leading role in Sony's E-commerce and network strategy," said Edward Grebow, president of Sony Electronics' Broadcast and Professional Company.

Mr. Jacobs joins Sony from CBS News where he most recently Executive Producer/New Media and Deputy General Manager, CBS.com. In this capacity, he has been responsible for CBS' broadband trials and helped found CBS.com, and was instrumental in developing an integrated network and affiliate Internet effort at CBS. Prior to joining CBS New Media, Steve was Executive Producer for CBS' coverage of many of the past decade's most important news events. He received Emmy Awards for editorial coverage of Pan Am #103 and for graphics during the Gulf War. He was part of the team that received the Polk Award for the uprising in Tiananmen Square and the events that led up to it. Mr. Jacobs is an authority in the application of real time graphics for production and the use of computer technology for television news. Prior to joining CBS, Steve was a producer for ABC News and several other television stations. Mr. Jacobs is a graduate of Cornell University. Mr. Jacobs will report to Senior Vice President Mike Vitelli for product and sales-related responsibilities and to BPC President Edward Grebow for E-commerce initiatives. He begins his position at Sony's Broadcast & Professional Company on April 10, 2000.
