The Film Information Technology Conference & Exposition Announced for October

Event to Focus On the Convergence of Technology and the Business of Filmmaking

LOS ANGELES--(March 7, 2000)--Film Information Technology Conference & Exposition (FilmIT) will be held October 26-27, 2000 at the Sheraton Universal Hotel in Los Angeles and will bring together the technology and film industries for an executive level, business to business event.

FilmIT will address the convergence of the filmmaking industry with the Internet and IT. In addition to a variety of exhibitors, the event will feature keynote speeches presented by film and technology industry visionaries, along with 25 conference sessions, case studies and workshops that examine in detail the effects and implications of these cutting-edge developments in Hollywood.

"Without a doubt, the Internet and new technologies are the most important influences filmmaking has experienced in recent history," said Paul Sitar, president and CEO of ISG, INC, the producers of FilmIT. "From the creation and production of content, to the use of technology in the promotional process, to the implications that technology has on the distribution and consumption of content, technology's influences are clear and profound."

FilmIT 's goal is to provide insight, answers and strategic direction for executives and business professionals from both the motion picture and technology industries within this emerging landscape. Presented in a business-to-business setting, the forum will address the continuing evolution of IT products and related issues such as:

  • -- Celluloid reels becoming digital content
  • -- Licensing, copyright, royalty and legal implications
  • -- Box office revenue merging with e-commerce revenue
  • -- Building fan and consumer communities via the Web
  • -- Storefront marketing becoming web-based marketing
  • -- Business channels becoming intranets and extranets
  • -- Snail mail and ground distribution now streaming media
  • -- Digital technology used throughout the creative process
  • -- Broadband's emergence: business ally or adversary?
  • -- Infrastructure and total cost of ownership issues

FilmIT follows in the footsteps of the Interactive Music Xpo (IMX) held in New York last year, in which Microsoft, RIAA, The Recording Academy, Intel, AT&T, Lucent Technologies, BMG, Yahoo!, Yamaha and countless other high-profile manufacturers, retailers, labels, managers and artists participated. IMX will be held this year in Los Angeles October 3-4. IMX is the nation's largest gathering of music and technology companies.

"Supported by an aggressive marketing campaign and bolstered by partnerships with leading associations and Web portals, we anticipate FilmIT's debut to equal IMX's tremendous success," added Sitar.

Exhibitors will represent a broad range of disciplines, including production hardware and software, security, online marketing and advertising, digital/online distribution and streaming video technology. Already confirmed as the event's first corporate sponsor is Sonic Foundry (www.sonicfoundry.com) a Madison, Wisconsin-based developer and marketer of Internet media software tools, services and systems used worldwide for multimedia and Internet applications, music and audio post-production, broadcast production and digital content creation. Confirmed exhibitors include Utah-based Sorenson Vison, Inc. (www.s-vision.com), a leader in video compression technologies that develops high-quality video tools and applications for use in multimedia and interactive business solutions, and Havas Interactive, Inc. (www.havasint.com), based in Torrance, California, the second largest PC consumer software publisher in the world, and internationally renowned for releasing critically acclaimed, award-winning titles.
