Eyeball Makes An In-Store Appearance At Nike Town

 

 

 

 

NEW YORK, NY, March 7­- At each of the 18 Nike Town retail stores, the lights dim every 15 minutes and large projection screens or monitors display promos for the new Nike brand clothing lines. The centerpiece promo was created by NYC design house Eyeball.

Working from still images photographed for the Nike Image Design division, Beaverton, OR, and using a script by Bob Lambie, Doubledown Creative, Beaverton, Eyeball created an energetic, fun piece to capture shoppers' attention, according to creative director Limore Shur.

The :70 promo, entitled "Kids Spring 2000," which debuts in April, will also be shown at Nike factory stores and selected retail partner locations, like Footlocker and Champs.

"The challenge was to create an exciting visual experience with a high-production music video feel from still photographs," explained Shur. "It was important to incorporate a constant sense of motion. It never feels like you're looking at stills."

Eyeball art director Jory Hull used Adobe After Effects, Illustrator and Photoshop to achieve the look. Interestingly, Hull noted he was aided by the techno soundtrack that was in hand before Eyeball began to work on the visual accompaniment.

"Because the promo targets children and pre-teens it had to have a different feel, needed to be less busy and not appear overly-designed," said Hull. "So we took a minimalist approach, cutting to the music to get the rhythmic feel and pacing we desired." Original music was composed by Jesse Houk.

This is not the first time Eyeball has teamed with Nike for a promotional campaign. Last year, Eyeball collaborated with advertising agency Wieden & Kennedy, Portland, Ore., on a series of off-air promos for the Nike Brand Jordan fashion line.

"For the Kids category piece the design had to be really bright, playful and fun," explained producer Christa Panfilio of Nike's film and video department. "We all felt the still photos were great, and with the help of the right design firm, would translate to the moving image. Everyone was very pleased with Eyeball's approach."
