Accom Participates in First Ever Winter Goodwill Games

Lake Placid, NY February, 18, 2000– Accom, Inc. (OTC—ACMM) a leader in broadcast and professional video products is providing an array of state-of-the-art equipment and support for the production of daily live broadcasts for the first ever Winter Goodwill Games in Lake Placid, NY home of the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics. The games, being broadcast around the world by Turner Sports, conclude on February 20.

At the International Broadcast Center (IBC), many Accom products such as Abekas® 8150 Switchers, Dveous® Digital Video Effects, Attache™ Digital Disk Recorders, Axess® Stills and Clip Stores and the newest members of the Accom family, Abekas® 6000 MultiFlex™ DTV Servers and AFFINITY™ Nonlinear Editing Systems are in use in the production, post-production and on air broadcast suites at the Goodwill Games. This is not only the first winter Goodwill Games, but the first time that Accom’s new Abekas 6000 Multiflex DTV Servers and AFFINITY NLE are being used in a live broadcast application such as this. "We are really excited to be here and what a great opportunity for Accom to be a part of this event," commented Dave Laba, Broadcast Products Marketing Manager for Accom. "What better way to debut our latest products AFFINITY and Abekas 6000 and see and hear first hand from our users at this highly publicized event. This is extraordinary."

According to Tom Sahara, Senior Technical Manager for Turner Sports, "We chose the Accom family of products for this event because its name and reputation is one that is trusted and recognized worldwide."

About the products being used, Sahara continued, "We feel that the 8150, Dveous and Axess are industry standards. We at Turner have built our entire graphics on the strengths of the Axess System which has unmatched functionality and picture quality."

"We are really excited to be trying out the new AFFINITY NLE here at the Goodwill Games. AFFINITY is a new generation of non-linear editing systems which is extremely fast and can handle compressed and uncompressed video simultaneously. Furthermore, it has excellent real-time 3D DVE effects and extensive compositing capabilities. This is a good way for us to see if it makes it in a pressure packed live sports environment and to learn how to use a non-linear editor," Sahara said.

"With the Abekas 6000 we see the advantage of using a server in a live sports application where you have high demand for the same sources. It alleviates the bottleneck of having one set of tapes that are shared amongst multiple edit rooms, he concluded.

"The experience and relationship that Accom and Turner have is a strong reason why we chose the Accom family of products to be a part of the 2000 Winter Goodwill Games," explained Lenny Daniels, Senior Director for Turner Sports. "Accom’s enthusiasm to help us whenever we need and the fact that they are able to make changes and to move forward in the direction that we ask, instead of the direction a company thinks we should be going, is such an important part of our decision to use Accom products," continued Daniels. "We also like the fact that Accom has people on board who have come from the operations side. This is such a tremendous value for a company, especially one that manufactures this type of equipment, because when working on these new products in an on air environment, they know what an operator needs. Accom is not just an engineering company, they really listen to the user when it comes to manufacturing equipment," concluded Daniels.
