ICE Ships Avid on ICE EZ Release

WALTHAM, MA --(April 15, 2000)-- ICE, last week at NAB announced it shipped Avid On ICE 3.5, known as the Avid On ICE EZ release, with exceptional ease in adding effects from within the familiar Avid nonlinear editing environment. Now with more effects and transition treatments, this latest Avid On ICE release includes over 110 superfast special effects filters that leverage ICE’s award-winning hardware/software acceleration technology – all easily accessed from within the Avid effect palette. Avid On ICE editors work more collaboratively, and productively to boost the creativity of their work — inserting more special effects as they edit, saving time spent learning new software interfaces, and moving seamlessly between offline Avid systems used to build effects and online systems for final finishing. The Basic Edition of Avid On ICE is priced at $5,995 and an Ultra Edition, with added functionality and speed for ICE’s ultimate advantage, is available for $9,995. This EZ release is provided at no charge to those registered Avid On ICE users as of April 10, 2000. ICE announced the shipment of Avid On ICE EZ at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) show Las Vegas April 10.

In the tight budgets of most organizations today, Avid editors are forced to work smarter by omitting steps in the creation process – adding compelling finishing touches while they edit — or streamlining time spent on costly online editing systems. Avid On ICE EZ provides Avid editors the competitive edge in today’s film and video markets so they stay ahead of their peers while pushing the envelope of the work they create. The product makes it "EZ" and superfast to add the industry’s widest selection of effects for transitions and sweetening the look of a video image when working on an Avid. With a simple drag and drop, users build complex visual effects and transitions with unprecedented ease at rendering speeds from 2 to 50 times faster, depending on the effect. Editors who know Avid, know Avid On ICE – with its wide variety of effects that adhere to the Avid interface.

Convenience, Performance, and Collaboration
Working On ICE, Avid editors retain all the convenience and familiarity of their preferred nonlinear editing platform – and expand their toolset for creating exceptional caliber work under deadlines that give them a competitive- and cost-edge. Since Avid On ICE EZ works on all Avid systems, editors who prefer building effects on a less expensive Avid Media Composer or other offline Avid systems may do so, knowing the effects will conform quickly and easily on an Avid Symphony. Avid editors within the company, or at outsourcing firms, collaborate at heightened productivity, saving time formerly spent in reworking images created offline.

"I have other third party special effects applications but I hesitate to use them because it means exporting and importing – two more steps in the process, when deadlines are always tight," said Frank Cernese, principle at Final Cut Editorial in New York City and an Avid On ICE user. "Having access to ICE’s wide palette of effects at their incredible speed, totally integrated within the Avid platform so that they appear on a timeline, is a powerful tool. Plus once clients see the ICE effects, they get so excited that they will go and preview the ICE filters on ICE’s web site and come back to me asking for certain effects by name."

When creating more sophisticated motion graphics and visual effects, facilities can leverage the power of the ICE hardware within Avid On ICE EZ in other popular applications such as Adobe After Effects On ICE – for an easy, affordable software-only upgrade.
