Violated,
Orin fears for his life and turns to Mira who reluctantly reveals her
knowledge of the clones, of the plan for Orin and also her involvement
with Spectrum. Knowing that Spectrum holds the answer, Orin agrees to
join with Mira. Later that night, they are arrested and Orin is dragged
before the Chancellor, forced to betray his love and prove his allegiance
to the government.
After
arresting several Spectrum sympathizers, Orin finds himself at the public
execution of Mira, and is forced to pull the trigger himself. Realizing
he’s been played as a pawn, Orin attempts suicide before being rescued
by Spectrum rebels. Deep underground, Orin learns from Adams, the resistance
leader, that the rebels are nothing more than the by-products of experiments
gone wrong and that the government created all the violence as a way
of surpressing the truth.
Unable
to lead further, Adams asks Orin to lead the rebels in a fight against
New Athens to which he agrees. Orin is now forced to live a dual-role,
one as leader of New Athens, the other as leader of Spectrum. As the
day draws near, the Spectrum troops are readied. The revolt is swift
and effective as the founders of the government are assassinated.
Orin
and Spectrum count their losses back in the underground headquarters
when Adams invites Orin to lead society into a new era of truth and
freedom. With barely a moment to consider the option, a wall explodes
inward as the compound is flooded with New Athens troops. Finally locating
Spectrum headquarters, the elated Chancellor orders the execution of
the rebels.
Orin
barely escapes the massacre alive. Running for his life, he encounters
Adams, who also escaped, and together they head for the train bound
for Parcenon. Once onboard, Adams reveals his true identity... he is
the Chancellor. Orin, trapped, must either join the Chancellor in his
maniacal plan for perfection or die. Realizing the Chancellor’s role
behind the experiments, Orin tackles him, ready to kill.
Unwilling
to let Orin win, the Chancellor remotely detonates the railroad track
on which they are riding, derailing the train. Badly hurt and in the
middle of the industrial wastelands, Orin, finds the Chancellor buried
under tons of metal and on the brink of death. Mustering his last strength,
Orin kills him and must now face the future as leader of New Athens.
