Dolby Digital 5.1—The Sound of Digital Cable—Exhibits at Cable-Tec Expo

ORLANDO, Fla.-(May 10, 2001 ) Dolby Laboratories will demonstrate four key products designed to ensure the highest quality multichannel audio broadcasts for cable television facilities at this year’s Cable-Tec Expo, May 9–11, at Booth #1142/1144 in the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando.

DM100 Bitstream Analyzer

DM100 Bitstream Analyzer Dolby Laboratories’ new handheld DM100 Bitstream Analyzer will allow audio system integrators and service engineers to quickly test the integrity and composition of Dolby Digital (AC-3), Dolby E, and PCM signals in a production facility, broadcast network, or cable head-end. The DM100 also generates Dolby Digital, Dolby E, and PCM test bitstreams. It has a built-in speaker and a headphone output for monitoring any two channels simultaneously.

DP562 Multichannel Dolby Digital Decoder This unit is a multichannel reference decoder for all Dolby Digital formats, including 5.1-channel for digital TV and digitally implemented four-channel Dolby Pro Logic decoding for audio encoded in Dolby Surround. The DP562 has an AES/EBU input for monitoring Dolby Digital datastream or Dolby Surround PCM signal, as well as digital and analog outputs. The unit allows monitoring of all downmix and compression modes.

DP569 Dolby Digital Encoder with version 2.0 software The reference multichannel Dolby Digital encoder is now available with new features. Used in many cable uplink facilities, this new version includes an improved menu system, new bitstream identifiers, additional downmixing settings, new compression profiles and presets, automatic data rate selection, a delay word for multiplexers, and improvements in audio coding quality. Existing DP569 users can receive version 2.0 software free by registering at www.dolby.com/tvaudio.

DP583 Frame Synchronizer Cable and satellite facilities routinely need to synchronize externally generated Dolby Digital or Dolby E bitstreams to match their internal plant reference. The DP583 accepts all Dolby Digital and Dolby E frame and data rates, as well as PCM inputs, and provides an output that is reframed to match the local plant reference. The DP583 also allows postproduction facilities to reframe Dolby E streams that have been stored on recorders that do not have video frame reference capabilities, such as DAT.

"Dolby Laboratories provides cable TV broadcasters with an end-to-end multichannel audio solution," said Tim Carroll, Product Manager, Professional Audio, Dolby Laboratories. "Dolby also provides its cable TV broadcast customers with excellent technical support services, resource information, and marketing assistance."
