SEATTLE, WASHINGTON-(Jan.
22, 2001 ) Premiere
systems integration provider Digital System Technology, Inc., (DST),
announced that it has completed integration and deployment of an all-digital
Internet Broadcast Operations Center (BOC) located in Seattle, Washington
for Real Broadcast Network (RBN), the hosting solutions division of
RealNetworks, Inc.
Featuring
state-of-the-art digital broadcast equipment, the new facility enables
RBN to utilize full bandwidth serial digital video for signal acquisition
and distribution within its facility. Digital encoding equipment developed
to RBN specifications by Pinnacle Systems, Inc., allows digital video
to be captured and streamed directly to the RBN distribution network
using RealProducer 8.0, recently released by RealNetworks. DST was fundamental
in the integration of this and other equipment, allowing the facility
to efficiently deploy a digital encoding and streaming system.
"RBN's Broadcast Operations Center is a milestone for Internet broadcasting,"
states Dwight Crumb, Vice President of Engineering, Digital System
Technology, Inc. "It incorporates all the latest serial digital video
technology for the best possible image quality over the net. This new
BOC is a clear example of where digital video streaming is heading.
We are thrilled to be at the forefront of this significant development
with Real Broadcast Network. We look forward to further developing new
solutions for RealNetworks and its customers."
The design of the facility from conception to completion was done in
60 days and came in on budget. DST played a major role in the selection
and integration of essential equipment, including a Philips router,
Symetrix 420 auto-levelers, CircuitWerkes phone couplers and Snell and
Wilcox Kudos Series converters. The Snell and Wilcox converters are
responsible for the analog-to-digital conversion of NTSC video from
the satellite receivers as well as synchronization and noise reduction,
a key element of the encoding process.
"We are extremely pleased to have teamed with Digital System Technology
on this important, forward-looking project," said Mark Warner,
Manager of Broadcasting for RBN. "RBN's new digital facility will
significantly improve the quality of service our customers deliver to
the Internet viewer. We believe that RBN, along with DST's expertise
in systems design and project management, has achieved a significant
breakthrough in Internet broadcasting with the design of this new facility."
